Product information

JH-V171 is a bifunctional silane with a reactive vinyl group and hydrolysable methoxysilyl groups. The dual nature of its reactivity allows JH-V171 to be used for chemical bonding of both inorganic materials (glass, metals, fillers) and organic polymers (thermosets, thermoplastics, elastomers, etc.), while acting as a crosslinking agent, promoter adhesion and / or surface modifier.

Reactivity

In the presence of moisture, the JH-V171 methoxy groups hydrolyze to form methanol and reactive silanol groups (Si-OH), which can chemically combine with many inorganic substrates or react with each other to form siloxane structures (Si-O-Si). Organophilic the terminal vinyl group JH-V171 can react with a suitable polymer. The reaction is initiated by peroxide.

Areas of use

1. Moisture curing of polymers:

JH-V171 is suitable for the preparation of moisture curing polymers such as polyethylene. A feature of this process is the peroxide-initiated grafting of vinylsilane to the polymer during extrusion. After grafting, the polymer can still be processed like a thermoplastic. Only when processing with moisture (water bath 80-100 ° C, flow bath, or even just ambient air conditions) polymer chains crosslink, forming a crosslinked polymer. The reaction can be accelerated by using a catalyst. Silanol XLPE is widely used in the insulation and sheathing of low voltage cables, as well as in the production of plastic pipes for hot / drinking water and underfloor heating.

2. Improving adhesion and surface modification.

Due to its ability to react with mineral fillers as well as organic polymers (activated by peroxides or radiation), JH-V171 acts as an effective adhesion promoter for a variety of mineral-filled polymers, improving mechanical and electrical properties, especially in wet conditions. Once attached to the filler, JH-V171 hydrophobizes its surface, improving the compatibility of the filler with polymers, resulting in better filler dispersion, lower melt viscosity and easier handling of the filled plastic.

Pretreating glass, metal and ceramic surfaces with JH-V171 improves the adhesion of coatings to these surfaces and thus improves corrosion resistance.

3. JH-V171 as a co-monomer for polymer dispersions.

Polymer dispersions (eg styrene acrylates) modified by JH-V171 exhibit improved wet adhesion and resistance to moisture degradation.

4. JH-V171 as a desiccant

JH-V171 reacts quickly with water. Even traces of water can be easily

neutralized with JH-V171. This effect is widely used in the manufacture of sealants.

5. Other applications of JH-V171

JH-V171 can easily attach to the bonds of OH groups. Hydroxyl-containing polymers, such as functionalized silicones, can be modified with JH-V171, thereby introducing reactive vinyl groups into the polymer chain. The vinyl group JH-V171 is activated by its proximity to the silicon atom, which makes this molecule convenient for a variety of organic synthesis.
