Can be used as food coloring E171. A white powdery substance with a melting point of 1870 ° C, insoluble in water, acids and dilute alkali solutions.
Evaporating temperature 2500 - 3000 ° C. Density 3.9 - 4.25 g / cm³. The most stable white pigment known.
When heated, it turns yellow, which disappears after cooling. In nature, it occurs in three modifications: the minerals rutile, anatase and brookite, which differ in different crystalline structures.
