Oleic acid (9-octadecenoic acid) - an unsaturated fatty acid, is an oily liquid.

Does not dissolve in water; dissolves in ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform.

Oleic acid is the most common unsaturated acid in nature.

Contained in many vegetable and animal fats in the form of esters - glycerides, is a part of animal fats and vegetable oils.
