Furfuryl alcohol (furyl) is a toxic flammable liquid, colorless or light yellow in color.
Miscible with water, forming unstable compounds, is able to dissolve in a variety of organic solvents.
With prolonged contact with air, furyl becomes red. Forms resins by reaction with acids.
The main method for the production of furfuryl alcohol is the catalytic reduction of furfural.
