Lauric acid is a colorless or milky crystals with a weak odor, soluble in organic solvents, poorly soluble in water.
According to its chemical properties, lauric acid is a typical representative of carboxylic acids, it is included in the triglycerides of animal fats, it is found in laurel and palm kernel oils, babassu oil, in fractions C10-C13 and C10-C16 of synthetic fatty acids, from where it is isolated by rectification.
