Characteristics
Application

Sebacic acid (decanedioic acid) HOOC (CH2) 8COOH is a dibasic saturated carboxylic acid. It has all the chemical properties of carboxylic acids.

Salts and esters of sebacic acid are called sebacate manganese sulfate MnSO4, which is carried out in the presence of ammonium sulfate (NH4) 2SO4.

In industry, sebacic acid is obtained mainly from castor oil.

When heated with water (200-225 ° C; 1.8-2.5 MPa), glycerin and a mixture of carboxylic acids containing 80-85% ricinoleic acid are formed;

decomposition with the last alkali at 250 ° C followed by saponification of the resulting sodium sebacate with mineral acids leads to the release of sebacic acid.

A promising method for obtaining sebacic acid is anodic condensation of monomethyl adipate to dimethyl sebacate,

followed by hydrolysis of the diester.

Sebacic acid can also be obtained by oxidizing cyclodecane with HNO3 or from 1,3-butadiene and ethylene.
